Takin' it to the Streets Questions

This year we are excited about our Vacation Bible School Plans! We have a burden to reach the children who aren't in anyone's VBS program. So we're Taking it to the Streets!

What is “Takin’ it to the Streets?”
Simply put, it is VBS in our neighborhood! Same thing, different location.

Why did we cancel VBS?
We didn’t. We have just moved the location of it.

Why can’t we do both?
Because we’re in the beginning stages, we want to make sure full attention is given to Takin’ it to the Streets. We long to do things with excellence and until this is established, it would be difficult to do both.

What is the purpose behind “Takin’ it to the Streets?”
68% of Olive Branch is unreached. We want to reach out to the families that may never darken the door of a church. During our traditional VBS, over 90-95% of kids attended are members of an evangelical church.

When will this take place?
We currently have 7 teams that will conduct their VBS throughout June or July. These dates will be posted soon on our website and other areas. Our goal is to have 10 teams for this first summer. Contact Wendy if you would like to host a site!

Who will lead?
The church! Each location is led by church members, preferably in the neighborhood they live. If needed, members will be placed on a team that is in need of workers. This is a great way for families to minister together in our neighborhoods.

How can I volunteer?
You may fill out a form, which are located in the West Events Center and Chapel Lobby. We need church members from middle school on up to take a role in leadership for our teams.

What positions are needed?

As in a typical VBS, we will need people to lead in the Bible Story, crafts, music, snacks, and recreation. We will also need extra hands for crowd control and to help with getting to know the parents of the kids attending.

Do I have to provide my own materials?
Each team will be given curriculum and supplies to carry out their VBS. We will be using Gospel Light’s Sonsurf Beach Bash Curriculum. Each team will be given a tote with their craft supplies, and other general supplies needed.

What age group is this for?
We are opening each VBS to kids that have completed K-5 grades. This is open to all children. LHBC kids are encouraged to attend one this summer and be missionaries in their community!

What about kids younger than Kindergarten age?
Each team can get creative on how to include or care for their younger preschoolers. We encourage parents to attend with their younger preschooler. For leaders kids, this is a great opportunity to begin teaching them about ministering in our homes together.

How do I register?
Online registration will be available for each site. If there is not a VBS in your neighborhood, consider having your kids go to a neighborhood where their unchurched friends are and invite them to come!

Are there any upcoming trainings?
Yes! Mark May 11 on your calendar. We will meet from 9am – 11am to cover all you need to know! This will be for all leaders that are helping this summer. Also, mark June 1 on your calendar for a church wide flyer blitz and prayerwalk through our neighborhoods!

What if I am unable to help at a particular site?
There are many things you can do! The first is to PRAY! Prayer cards are already available at the Faith at Home Center, West Events Center, and Chapel Lobby. Also, Sunday School classes are encouraged to adopt a team to pray for, help provide snacks for, and help meet any other needs they may have.
