Ministry Opportunities

 

Longview Heights is actively working in our community to demonstrate Christ like love to our neighbors.  The information below is a partial list of some of the ongoing ministry opportunities in our community.  If you would like more information about any of these activities or would like to volunteer, please email Bro. Back To School Ministry

Providing school supplies to needy families in Desoto County.

Baptist Children’s Village

Longview Heights provides mission support to the Children’s Village at Farrow Manor in Independence Ms.  The campus cottages there provide a safe Christian based environment for children who’s family is not able to provide for them during this season of there life.  Contact Mark Cantrell for more details if needed.

Care Center

This Pregnancy Resource center is located in Southaven and provides free pregnancy tests, pregnancy counseling, ultrasound services, adoption options and referrals and also provides maternity clothing, baby clothing and food.  If you would like more information or want to volunteer to help or donate contact The Care Center at 662-280-1202.

Child Evangelism Foundation (CEF)

Creating opportunities to evangelize and disciple local children.  Organizing Good News Clubs teaching bible lessons to kids. For more information contact Terri Tilmon at 901-647-1614.

Christmas Assistance

Longview Heights members and Sunday School classes adopt needy families in Desoto County during the holidays and provide children’s gifts.

Community Family Festival

Logistics for Memorial Day weekend festival for community fellowship. Food, Music, Games, Rides

Community Health Fair

Spring event inviting our community to come for health and fitness screenings and information.

Construction Missions

Assisting local churches with renovation projects. Home repair for disaster relief victims.

Crafts Fair

Work concessions to raise money for future community missions projects (annual fall event).

Disaster Relief Emergency Response Ministry

Longview Heights coordinates training for volunteers responding to disaster relief needs in our community.  Volunteers are needed for (a) debris removal / chain saw work (b) blue tarping roofs (c) emergency shelter and (d) emergency response cook teams.  Most disaster areas now require certification before allowing volunteers entry into devastated areas.  Contact our Longview Heights Disaster Relief Coordinator, Don Beach to participate (662-895-6748).

Providing emergency shelter for disaster victims.

Fall Festival

Logistics for fall event inviting children in our community a safe alternative to Halloween.

Friendship Feast

Serving a meal to folks who do not have family here to share and fellowship with on Thanksgiving Day.

Homebound Ministries

You can help every Wednesday evening by delivering worship service tapes/CD's and Wednesday night meals to the homebound.

Impact Missions (formerly Desoto Sunrise Homes)

A non profit, faith based ministry dedicated to providing Christ centered care to abused children.  Located in Southaven, Ms this ministry currently provides a safe home environment for up to 12 girls aged 12 to 18.  Impact Missions needs donations of paper products, personal hygiene items, cleaning supplies, and canned food items.  If you can help please contact Susan Curtis at 662-429-7928.

Memphis Union Mission

Memphis Union Mission ministers to the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of men who are homeless, may have addictions, or in crisis. OB Emergency Food Pantry

Stock shelves and issue food for Desoto county needy families.

OB Thrift Store

Sort and distribute clothes for Desoto county needy families.

Operation Christmas Child (Local)

Local version of the Samaritans Purse.

Precious In Pink Ministries

The mission of Precious in Pink Ministries is to reflect the hope and love of Christ by providing a stable Christ-centered environment for women who desire to change their lives. Precious in Pink Ministries remains committed to provide an environment that models evangelical Christian values, mends emotional scars, restores self-esteem and provides for each woman the full opportunity to reach her God-given potential.  This ministry group provides weekly bible studies for ladies incarcerated here in Desoto County and assists them upon release in transitioning back into our community.  Contact Ann Lunceford for additional information (662-536-0777).

Senior Adult Transportation

Would you be willing to be on a call list to transport senior adults who cannot drive to doctors appointments or to the market?  If you could help with this ministry, email mcantrell@longveiwheights.org or call the church office at 662-895-1900.

Valet Service

Would you be willing to be on a call list to help park cars for senior adults with mobility challenges?  Many of our members are not able to attend Sunday morning worship during inclement weather.  We are working on a ministry that would allow them to pull to our worship porticoes and have a volunteer park their car in the lot.  If you could help with this ministry please email mcantrell@longveiwheights.org or call the church office at 662-895-1900.

Widow Ministry Opportunities

Would you would like to participate in loving and ministering to our Longview Heights widows?  There are many opportunities to demonstrate Christ like love to those around us.  We have ladies that could use some occasional help around the house with light duties such as house cleaning, leave raking, and other items.  Contact Mark Cantrell for more information.

Yard Work

Group that helps with yard projects for hospital patients and disabled.

Miscellaneous Needs

We also need a call list of volunteers for helping set up and clean up for special events.
