Trekkers Mission Statement

Our Mission

At Longview Heights, the Trekkers After School Program exists for the purpose of providing quality care, recreational enjoyment and educational learning in a Christian environment to children of the church and surrounding community.

It is our aim to respond to individual and family needs through nurturing and guiding the child in wisdom and knowledge that will foster development and empower the child as a whole in all aspects of life:

  • Spiritual – directing the child toward a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and developing that relationship on a deeper, more intimate level
  • Physical – pursuing physical growth and development by establishing and reinforcing healthy habits through eating well during snack time and exercising regularly during organized or free recreational activities
  • Academics – working with the established educational system and providing assistance in grasping an essential understanding of all subject areas in addition to developing creative, critical and independent thinking skills
  • Community/Social – Providing a safe, supervised environment that allows children to develop self worth, friendships and social skills in order to relate more effectively to others as well as develop a sense of responsibility and respect
  • Emotional – offering a family-oriented atmosphere where an emphasis is placed on such characteristics and positive qualities as trustworthiness, fairness, compassion, loyalty, patience, honor, faithfulness, justice and love
Trekkers will provide after-school care for school-age children — kindergarten through sixth grade. “School age” will be determined by the grade the child will enter in the fall semester of the upcoming school year. The ministry will service the following schools: Desoto Central, Pleasant Hill, Olive Branch, Lewisburg.

Planned, structured activities throughout the week include:
  • snack time
  • recreational activities (planned and free time)
  • family building
  • study hall
  • Bible study
  • computer lab
