Welcome!

I am glad you are taking the time to check up on Longview Heights Baptist Church. We want you to do so because we believe that God is doing a continually fresh work of His Spirit in our congregation. We have seen our precious Lord change lives through restoring marriages, calling people to the ministry and mission field, encouraging children, and involving the church family in life changing ministry both inside and outside the church walls.
Are we perfect? NO WAY!
Do we long to serve Jesus? IN EVERY WAY!
We are grateful to be a part of the great commission, reaching the world from 4501 Goodman Road. Our ministry involves new church plants, missions at home and around the world, recovery ministries, and special needs ministries. In addition, we believe in Sunday School (small groups) where everyone can know someone and every member can be accounted for in times of joy, need, or hurt. Couple that with a blended worship style and you have the ingredients for vibrant worship, victorious walk, and visionary work.
Come join us at your next opportunity. You can find a lot of information about us, including time of service, etc. throughout this website. If we can minister to your lives please let us know.

In Jesus,
Whit Lewis
Senior Pastor

What to expect

Visiting a new church can be intimidating: What should I wear? Where do I park? Where do my kids go?

We understand the many thoughts that can come from visiting a new church, so we want you to feel completely comfortable when you visit LHBC for the first time.

Below are some frequently asked questions. If you have any additional questions, don't hesitate to contact us by phone at (662) 895-1900, by any of our staff by email or visit the Welcome Center in the church lobby center when you visit.

When are services?
Longview services are on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. Bible Study Classes for all ages meet at 9:00 a.m. every Sunday Morning.

Sunday morning services are held in the main auditorium. (East building). An Information / Welcome Center is located in the foyer of the worship center, where you will find helpful volunteers to assist you!

What should I wear?
We want you to feel comfortable. After all, we are thrilled that you're joining us and want you to be more focused on the service than what you're wearing. Many prefer to dress casually while others put on their "Sunday best," and that's fine too! We think you'll fit in no matter how you dress.

How do I get to Longview?
Longview Heights Baptist Church is located at 4501 Goodman Road, between Malone Road and Pleasant Hill Road.

Where should I park?
There are four parking lot entrances. You may park in any available spot; there are reserved spots for senior adults, first time guests, and also for parents with preschoolers (south of the “C” building). During busier times, parking in the far southwest lot is your best bet.

We encourage Senior Adults to park in the East lot because of the proximity to Sunday School Classes and we encourage Parents with small children to park in the Southwest lot for convenient check-in of your preschoolers and elementary age children.

Where do my children go?
LHBC preschool and children’s ministries are the perfect place for your children to experience a great time in a quality learning environment. Longview offers a wide variety of activities for infants through sixth graders throughout the week! Check out the “ministries” tab for more information.

If you have school age children, then visit the Children or Preschool Welcome Desks in the “C” building. Your children will be checked in, and you will receive a receipt sticker which you will need in order to pick up your child.

For the safety and security of your child, it is important that you keep track of your receipt sticker. This helps us know that you are the person authorized to pick up your child.

Am I expected to give toward the offering?
If you are our guest, we would ask that you place your guest information card (the tear off from the bulletin) in the offering plate. This card has a section for prayer needs. This will allow us the privilege of praying for you and knowing how we might help you get involved in a Sunday School class.

If you consider Longview your church home, we'd love for you to prayerfully consider giving to LHBC. You can give by check or cash during the service, or you can give online at longviewheights.org.

Where can I get additional information? We would love to meet you! In fact, we have a gift for you! That’s why at the conclusion of the Sunday morning service, members of our staff meet with first-time guests at the information center. Please fill out the communication card that you find in your worship guide and bring it to the information center to claim your free gift!

Articles of Faith

1. THERE IS ONE TRIUNE GOD
There is only one true and living God who is the Creator of the universe. He exists eternally in three Persons – the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit working harmoniously in the great work of redemption.

2. THE BIBLE IS GOD’S WORD
The Bible is God’s written revelation of Himself to mankind divinely given through human authors who were inspired by the Holy Spirit. It is entirely true, totally sufficient, and completely authoritative for matters of life and faith.

3. PEOPLE ARE CREATED IN GOD'S IMAGE
Human Beings are created by God to bear His image. They are the crowning work of His creation worthy of love, dignity, and respect regardless of matters like age, race, gender, or class.

4. PEOPLE ARE IN NEED OF REDEMPTION
Because of the Fall, the image of God in people is distorted but not lost. All people have disobeyed God willfully through sin; thus inheriting both physical and spiritual death and the need for redemption. All human beings are born with a sin nature and into an environment inclined toward sin. We believe that sinners are justified and saved only by the grace of God through simple faith in Jesus Christ.

5. JESUS IS BOTH LORD AND CHRIST
Jesus is both fully God and fully human. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died on the Cross as a substitute for mankind, was raised from the dead, ascended into heaven, and will one day return.

6. JESUS IS THE ONLY WAY OF SALVATION
Salvation comes only through Jesus Christ, the only mediator between God and man. No other religion, belief, or person can reconcile God and man. He alone can provide forgiveness and eternal salvation.

7. SALVATION IS BY FAITH ALONE
Salvation comes only through a faith relationship with Jesus Christ, the Savior, as a person repents of sin and receives Christ’s forgiveness and eternal life. Salvation is instantaneous and accomplished solely by the power of the Holy Spirit through the Word of God. This salvation is wholly of God by grace on the basis of Christ’s life, death, and resurrection, not on the basis of human works. All the redeemed are secured in Christ forever.

8. THE CHURCH IS CHRIST'S BODY
The Holy Spirit immediately places all people who put their faith in Jesus Christ into one united spiritual body, the Church, of which Christ is the head. We believe that a visible church of Christ is a congregation of baptized believers, an autonomous body, associated by covenant in faith and fellowship of the gospel; observing the ordinances of Christ; governed by His laws, and exercising the gifts, rights, and  privileges invested in them by His Word; seeking to extend the Gospel to the ends of the world; that its only Scriptural officers are pastors and deacons, whose qualifications, claims, and duties are defined in the scriptures.

We believe that the Bible guides the practices of the church including the ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is an act of obedience. Baptism is the picture of the believer's faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior. Baptism is a picture of the believer's death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in a new life in Christ Jesus. Baptism shows the believer’s faith in the final resurrection of the dead. Baptism is required before church membership. Baptism is also required before taking the Lord's Supper. The Lord's Supper is a picture of obedience. We will regularly observe this ordinance as we, together, solemnly and joyfully remember the past work of Christ on the cross, celebrate the present work of Christ at the Father’s right hand, and anticipate the future work of Christ in His return for His bride.

We believe that the first day of the week is the Lord's Day. It is a Christian custom to recognize this day regularly. On this day Christians celebrate the resurrection of Christ from the dead. This day should include worship and spiritual commitment, both public and private. Activities on the Lord's Day should agree with the Christian's sense of right and wrong under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. We believe in the independence and separation of church and state.

9. JESUS CHRIST WILL RETURN
God will bring the world to its appropriate end in His own time and in His own way. At that time, Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly in glory to the earth. Christ will judge both the saved and unsaved. Those who have trusted Christ will receive a glorified body and dwell forever with the Lord. Those who have not trusted in Christ will spend eternity in hell, the place of everlasting punishment.

We voluntarily cooperate with the churches of the Southern Baptist Convention. We desire to guide the principles of our faith and govern this body in an orderly manner consistent with the Baptist Faith and Message of the Southern Baptist Convention, 2000.
